I write this short post with great pleasure as my beautiful hometown, Ambergris Caye, was named Top Island in the World for the second year in a row by TripAdvisors’ Travelers’ Choice. It’s pretty obvious there is something magical about our island that draws visitors from all over the world to come and see for themselves. This award means a lot to us here in the island as it is not chosen by a few select but rather actual travelers who get to experience first hand all the great things we have to offer. Recently a tourist who got married here in the island said to me, “You live in a beautiful place, you are so lucky to call this paradise your home.”
Maybe it’s exactly what TripAdvisor says or maybe it’s something more. I know for sure that we work hard in one way or another to make our Isla Bonita a better place for everyone and I know that this will serve as an incentive for everyone to make things even better in our little gem.
For the second year in a row, Ambergris Caye takes top honors. The beautiful Belize island offers the perfect blend of modern development and laid-back tranquility. A mangrove swamp is the eye of this white beach island, the largest in Belize, and golf carts are the main form of transportation along the sandy roads. Reef divers drool over the Belize Barrier Reef and the Blue Hole, a 400-feet deep circle of limestone that teems with angelfish, elkhorn coral, cleaner shrimp and stalactites.
Here are a few images of my beloved island. I am always trying to capture its natural beauty to share with the world. And did you know that San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, is also a popular choice for destination weddings and honeymoons? Yes, check out this article on the top ten reason why you should get married in Belize.
Sailboats and catamarans dot the coast of the island. They are used to take tourists to popular sites like Hol-Chan Marine Reserve, Shark/Ray Alley, Bacalar Chico, and they can also take you on a sunset cruise that will surely amaze you.
Palm tress adorn the beaches. You can go and sit under them and relax while you read your favorite book. Or you can admire the reef and hear the waves crashing. It’s truly an experience. Try it!
Here is another view of the reef. Isn’t it amazing?
And if you love sunsets, head on the lagoon part of the island to witness some of the most amazing ones you will ever see. I hope to see you soon some day in my island.
And here is a picture of The Great Blue Hole which is every diver’s dream. If you don’t dive, you can still go snorkeling or you can view it from the air.
